Since 1995, the Herring Festival has marked the beginning of a new event season in Hvide Sande. The festival was created in collaboration between Holmsland Klit Tourist Association, Kott Fritid, and various local associations, and has since the 2000s had the gymnastics association HVAK as a regular partner.
